Denis Lawrence Jr.

Denis majored in the performing arts at UMass Bridgewater. He has performed with local and regional theatre companies, such as The Gateway Playhouse, The Spouter’s Theatre Company, The Whaling City Festival Theatre Company, The Little Theatre of Fall River and Your Theatre, just to name a few. Denis is the recipient of two Academy of Regional Theatre Arts awards as Best Actor in the musicals West Side Story and Chicago.
He is the recipient of a Drama Masque Award for his portrayal of Van Helsing in Dracula. His acting credits include Night Must Fall, Hello, Dolly! “Barefoot in the Part, The Wiz, Art, Nunsense Amen!, to name a few. He has directed numerous plays and musicals, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, The Diary of Ann Frank, Elephant Graveyard, Seussical the Musical, Peter Pan, Chicago and Disney’s The Little Mermaid. As a playwright, his plays Low Tide, The Waiting Room, Return To Sender, Christmas in New England and Murder At Luigi’s have been performed throughout the region. He has successfully produced and directed live radio broadcasts of A Christmas Carol, It’s A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street for WBSM. Denis has also directed the child Munchkin Ensemble for the National Touring Company of The Wizard of Oz for the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center.
Denis is co-founder of SouthCoast Children’s Theatre, and serves as its Artistic Director. SCCT is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing children of SouthCoast Massachusetts, the opportunity to be involved in a professional learning atmosphere as it relates to the performing arts. The goal of the SCCT is to teach children respect for others while at the same time building self-esteem and reinforcing team work to achieve a common goal while allowing children in grades one through eight to participate in a production of children’s age appropriate theatre, “Where Kids Act Like Kids”.
Denis is the Co-Director for the Dartmouth High Theatre Company. His students have gone on to perform in community and regional theatre as well as motion pictures, commercials and print ads. As a one on one college audition preparation instructor many of his students have also gone on to major in the performing arts attending such schools as NYU, Marymount, Point Park, RIC, Emerson and BSU.
Denis also teaches theatre courses in Acting, Musical Theatre and Auditioning.

Shirley's DHTC co-directing credentials include; Murder at Luigi's, The Odd Couple (Female Version), Elephant's Graveyard, Seussical the Musical, Miracle on 34th Street, Legally Blonde, Return to Sender, A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, Chicago, Babes in Toyland, Disney's The Little Mermaid, and Fools.
Ms. Byers is a music educator for the Dartmouth Public School System. She is a diverse musician and performs repertoire as an organist, pianist and vocalist.
She has studied organ performance at New England Conservatory, Voice and Music Education at UMass Dartmouth where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree and Music Education Certification from the Department of Education in Massachusetts. She obtained her Masters Degree in Music Education from Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island.
She is the organist/music director at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in New Bedford.
Shirley was the vocal director for Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Mulan, Dear Edwina, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Wiz, Peter Pan, Shrek and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for SouthCoast Children's Theatre (SCCT).
Most recently she directed 110th Street Station, DHTC's 2017 entry in the Massachusetts High School Regional Theatre Competition.
